On May 29, 2019, MALA’s office in Washington, DC organized a joint Iftar Dinner with the Embassy of Azerbaijan to celebrate the month of Ramadan, freedom of religion, diversity, and inclusion. This event took place at the Embassy of Azerbaijan with the participation of 30 guests and included welcoming remarks by both the Embassy staff and MALA’s leadership, followed by a reception.
This was a joint civic and community engagement initiative by both parties based on common values. The Embassy of Azerbaijan works with community organizations to promote a cultural of mutual understanding and shared knowledge between the people of Azerbaijan and Americans. MALA aims to partner with civic leaders to strengthen community and counter extremism.
The Iftar dinner was a private, invite-only event where MALA’s DC Community Builders had the opportunity to meet in person with MALA’s Executive Zainab Khan and Deputy Director Ahmed Flex Omar. The guests were welcomed by Counselor Vugar Gurbanov from the Embassy and followed by remarks by Zainab Khan and Flex. This was a great opportunity for MALA to build new partnership with the Embassy of Azerbaijan and strengthen relationships with MALA DC community members.
