Meriem Sedoun shares her experience as an Algerian Berber, having grown up with only her immediate family in the United States. Kafiya Dawi’s father was her world, until he left her family and made her question anything she knew about family, love and trust. She has spent years trying to overcome the scars he created, and while it hasn’t been easy, she has become stronger and a teenager that is now in control of her future.

Ahmad Abdelrahim is of Palestinian descent. He recalls his favorite memories from Jordan in his reflective story. He is striving to obtain his PHD in physical therapy, and currently works as a CNA nurse assistant. In his free time, he likes to go to comic-cons with his friends and attend Friday prayers at the mosque.

Abdurahman is from Tunisia, and describes the differences between his home country and American society. A student at Benedictine University, Abdurahman encourages the importance of compromise, respect, and communication. Fatema Osman is 4th grade teacher at Razi School in New York City. She graduated from Brooklyn College in 2014 with a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology and Psychology. She is pursuing a career in occupational therapy and hopes to, one day, make a positive political impact on society. Her interests include helping others, playing
