Sami is a Pakistani student and visionary – his dream is to ensure that every child in Pakistan has access to the education they need to reach their full potential. Recently, he started the The Green Revolution – an organization committed to mobilizing Pakistani youth for social change.

This story is part of a virtual exhibition, “I Am Mohammed”, produced by Narmeen Haider and Aanjalie Collure. The project aims to subvert stereotypes by showcasing the stories of people – of all ages, sexes and nationalities – that bear the name ‘Mohammed”.

“My name is Muhammad Sami, I am a 23 year old Muslim individual from Karachi, Pakistan. I have completed my O and A levels and right now I’m studying business, but there’s more to it. I have been teaching at various institutions for the past 5 years. I have also founded a social enterprise that goes by the name “ The Green Revolution;” green is for Pakistan and Revolution is for change. For the past four years, I have organized educational training conferences and projects, and worked for several charitable causes.

My idea is to divert the youth of this country and help them use their talents and abilities for constructive projects that can bring a long lasting change for this society. We also work with special needs children.
Pakistan is a country that faces a lot of problems, such as illiteracy and child labor, so recently we have been working with a project that focuses on providing education to children who cannot afford high quality education due to their financial conditions. Within a month, we will be soon launching a proper schooling system that aims to provide 100% free education to each and everyone who cannot afford it, irrespective of their religion, race, irrespective of matters such as race and religion.

I believe Albert Einstein said “everyone is intelligent, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its entire life believing it is stupid.” Therefore, we want to create a school system where fish are no longer forced to climb trees, a system that changes everything. That is the idea i want to devote my entire life to.

The greatest challenge for me is to escape death and attain immortality. Now, don’t get confused, I believe life is a precious gift from God, and living a meaningless life is what I’m afraid of. Great people die, but whatever decisions they make and act upon, that’s what leaves a mark afterwards; after they die, they still live through the great work they have accomplished. I want to stand up for something and do something great in my life, so that even after I die, I still live in the form of change and good I contributed, for the betterment of this world. That is the only key to immortality, and I would like to be immortal in that regard.”
