MALA was recently recognized by Mayor Rahm Emanuel as one of Chicagoland’s “most innovative 501(c)3 civic and community organizations.” Mayor Emanuel’s letter of proclamation expresses pride and confidence in MALA’s mission to celebrate diversity, strengthen community, and cultivate new generations of compassionate, informed leaders both in the city of Chicago, and the United States as a whole. MALA is honored by this recognition, which comes just in time for our second Annual Gala, held in support of the MALA Scholarship program. With Mayor Emanuel’s recognition of MALA’s successes comes an even more important message: There is still work to be done. We echo Mayor Emanuel in challenging our communities to help continue this vital work, and to join us in the struggle for a future that is more informed, more compassionate, and less divisive.
