On April 10th, 2017, MALA sponsored and hosted Zeshan B’s Album Release with a live concert at Untitled Chicago. The sold-out show headlined his debut album ‘Vetted’. Produced by Lester Snell (the legendary arranger for Isaac Hayes, Al Green, Mavis Staples), ‘Vetted’ is a mixtape of Zeshan’s originals and lesser known 1960s and ‘70s deep soul gems. The album was recorded in Memphis at the famed Ardent Studios with a wrecking crew of Stax Records’ sidemen. And in 11 tracks and 3 languages–English, Urdu and Punjabi–Zeshan poured his heart out for the audience. Guests enjoyed award winning cuisine and premium cocktails in a relaxed, sophisticated ambience custom-set for live entertainment.

With Zeshan recently featured on Rolling Stones Magazine as “10 New Artists You Need to Know” and recognized by Billboard’s “Top 10 World Music Albums”, MALA is proud to support artists that encompass diversity and heritage. MALA’s Board of Director, Ahmed Omar, welcomed the audience to learn more about the power of story-telling, arts, and cultural engagement through our diverse programs. Listen to Zeshan’s initial StoryCorps feature with MALA here, as he shares his journey into music. We thank our donors, supporters, partners, and community for making this event a spectacular success!
