MALA (Muslim American Leadership Alliance) was delighted to be a part of a special screening of Maryam Sepehri’s film, Mouth Harp in a Minor Key: Hamid Naficy In/On Exile. The film was screened as a part of the Festival of Films From Iran at the Gene Siskel Film Center (164 N. State St., Chicago IL) on February 2, 2019, 8:00pm CST.
Mouth Harp in a Minor Key: Hamid Naficy In/On Exile traces the journey of Hamid Naficy: from growing up in Iran under the Shah, to the 1979 Islamic Revolution, to his studies in the U.S., the film tells the story of how Naficy became the foremost historian of Iranian cinema, and a renowned authority on the culture of the Iranian diaspora.
At the screening, the audience was joined by the film’s director, Maryam Sepehri, and it’s subject, Hamid Naficy for a conversation about the film. Following the film, MALA invited the audience to join us for a dessert reception at the gallery space to celebrate Hamid Naficy’s 70th birthday!
MALA is committed to strengthening community by celebrating cultural heritage and amplifying the voices of individuals who strive to build bridges and break down barriers.
