On September 21st, 2016 MALA hosted an IL Speaks event, sponsored by IL Humanities.

TEACH by Participant Media was screened on the top floor of the newest We Work location on Kinzie street. With a view overlooking the west Loop, guests steadily filled the lounge, mingled and enjoyed refreshments, both indoors and out on the terrace. The hour leading up to the event gave guests the opportunity to enjoy wine and cheese, samples of organic honey by Heaven’s Honey Inc, among other light refreshments.

TEACH, Oscar-winning filmmaker Davis Guggenheim’s third documentary on the subject of education in America, asks the question, “What does it take to be a teacher?” Hosted and narrated by Oscar-nominee Queen Latifah, the documentary offers a rare glimpse inside four public school classrooms in different cities around the country.

A valuable and interactive discussion concluded the evening, and all guests received a copy of the DVD to help continue the dialogue and awareness to pay homage to our country’s most valuable asset: teachers.
