MALA, in partnership with Participant Media and Malala Fund, held 2 screenings of “He Named Me Malala” in honor of the UN’s International Day of the Girl at the AMC River East in Chicago, IL.

The documentary is an intimate portrait of Malala Yousafzai, by Academy Award winning director Davis Guggenheim.

Malala Yousafzai, who had been targeted for speaking out on behalf of girls’ education in her region of Swat Valley in Pakistan, was shot in the head, sparking international media outrage. She has since emerged as a leading campaigner for the rights of children worldwide and in December 2014,  became the youngest-ever Nobel Peace Prize Laureate.

We’d like to thank Aga Khan University, Chicago Leadership Alliance, Girl Up, UN Foundation, United Nations Association, and UNICEF for their support in making this event a success!
